THE SIERRA WESTERN
& SANTA FE RR
SACRAMENTO RIVER - MP 1294.1
- Approaching the Sacramento River
from the south (actual compass heading is west) the single track
Santa Fe mainline rises along a long fill to cross over the river
on a 450ft long bridge made up of three plate girder sections
on the east side of the river, two steel through truss sections
over the river, and another plate girder section on the west side.
The west end of the bridge leads to the top of a bluff overlooking
the west shore.
- At the end of the bridge is the
beginning of the long Red Bluff passing siding. The passing siding
and the mainline immediately curve to the right and heads north
through Red Bluff.
