THE SIERRA WESTERN
& SANTA FE RR
RED BLUFF
- Red Bluff is where the Southern
Pacific's mainline crosses under the Santa Fe. Beginning at Red
Bluff and continuing north the two railroads parallel each other
until reaching the outskirts of Redding, where they cross at grade
- At Red Bluff there is a Santa Fe standard design
woodframe depot, a house track behind the depot, and two sidings
- one off the mainline and the other off the house track. The
passing siding ends about 1/2 mile north of the depot
- The SP mainline heading to the south crosses
under the Santa Fe south of the Red Bluff station and disappears
into a deep cut on the west side of the Santa Fe mainline. This
is the beginning of the hidden track approaching the SP staging
tracks and reverse loop.
- The visible portion of the SP mainline
represents Glade on old SP timetables
